Interview

Is There a Message in Your Novel That You Want Readers to Grasp?
I guess it would be, that not everyone survives cancer. You read all these books about people with these different sicknesses, and in nearly all of them, they get cured. They get their miracle. But not everyone gets that. Amelia’s Hope shows that side, and, without spoiling anything, shows that tragedy can be beautiful and even when everything seems to go wrong…it can actually end up going right.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
I think the most challenging thing, for me, is telling the love story that breaks all the rules. Falling in love is the easy part, but just like real life, it’s staying in love that’s the tough part. And in Amelia’s Hope, it’s about staying in love through the toughest time of all.

How many books have you written and which is your favorite?
Amelia’s Hope is my 10th book, and is by far my favorite.

If You had the chance to cast your main character from Hollywood today, who would you pick and why?
I think I would choose someone like Sophia Bush. I think the way she plays her current role in Chicago PD, I think she would have no problem nailing the character of Cara.

When did you begin writing?
I wrote my first book in 2010

How long did it take to complete your first book?
It took me about four months.

Did you have an author who inspired you to become a writer?
I’d love to say yes, but honestly, no. It just seemed like every book I read was the same story, just different characters. I wanted to write something different, I wanted to write the type of stories I wanted to read.

What is your favorite part of the writing process?
The editing. Weird, I know. It was a grueling process that gutted my novel but the way it ended up, sculpted into this wonderful, emotional journey. That was by far my favorite part. And the little notes from my editor helped. She would leave notes like, “Literal tears here!” or “That’s so Cara!” and that made the editing process that much more special.

Describe your latest book in 4 words.
Raw, Real, Emotional, and Heartwarming.

Can you share a little bit about your current work or what is in the future for your writing?
My current work in progress is another love story, but it’s a love story about friendship… the friendship of male best friends. While one is a Veteran who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis and is too broken to let anyone in, except his best friend. And his best friend realizes, some things that are broken, don’t need to be fixed.

Growing up on an old dirt road in the middle of nowhere, as a child Candis used her love for books as a way to escape reality (and her brother constantly trying to kill her--literally). She blames her love of all things Horror on being born on Friday the 13th and will always find joy in scaring her friends.

You will find a little piece of her in every book she writes. She loves a good happy ending but isn’t afraid to keep her stories real, even if that means telling the side of a story most people are afraid to tell.
Never caring for the norms or boundaries, Candis has written several genres from Horror to Erotica.

When she's not writing or reading, she can usually be found chasing her children around or binge watching Netflix. She currently lives in Rome, Pennsylvania with her husband and three children.
